Now this is very very exciting news for us. You may have heard our news already if you follow us on Twitter or “like” us on Facebook but it’s about time we tell you about this amazing opportunity in more detail.
A few months ago we were asked by the Recreate project if we would consider setting up and running a pop-up shop. Of course Cathy already has a shop (Loveone, on St Peters Street) but she was really up for the chance of stocking a shop with all the handmade products our stallholders have to offer. She already stocks the work of some of our regulars but doesn’t have enough room in her shop to promote as many makers as she’d like and Chris and I jumped at the chance to make the markets a shop.
Now that isn’t to say we won’t be holding the markets for the 6 months – a year that we will be running the shop. We absolutely love organising them and don’t want to stop so the shop will offer a small selection of work by our makers, and hopefully some from further afield, and you will be able to get the full range from the artists at the markets.
So, now, we have the keys and are busy behind the scenes getting the shop ready to open some time in June. The interior is currently painted Cadbury’s purple so is in need desperate need of a good lick of white paint. So until we can get in there with our pad sanders and hopefully a group of friendly volunteers all the work is happening through laptops, iPads and iPhones.
BUT we did do this….
Since doing the window we’ve been out sourcing vintage and retro furniture on which to display the wonderful wares and collecting things like old bottle crates, a yellow vinyl stool, old apple crates and tea trays to give the shop the eclectic feel we’re looking for. The hunt goes on!
So keep watching for updates on the shop!
We are now in our fifth year of holding the annual St Peter’s Street Summer Market. Yes!! Five years we’ve been doing this! Can you believe it? We almost can’t, almost.
As usual we are teaming up with the fantastic Ip-Art Festival for their opening weekend, lets hope the sun is shining for us! Check out http://www.ip-art.com for all the up to date news about arts events happening over 2 weeks from 20th June – 13th July.
So for one sunny Sunday we will have loads of unique crafts stalls and eclectic vintage goodies to offer you and the Saints area will be busy with the independent shops and businesses opening their doors to welcome you in.
St Peter’s Street is busier than ever with new shops popping up all over the place so if you’ve never visited this special part of town, come on Sunday 22nd June and experience it at it’s best!
Lastly, if you are interested in taking a stall we are currently accepting applications so pop over to the “application form” section under the “craft markets” tab. The application process closes on Sunday 11th May.
Our first market of 2014 will be held at Ipswich Town Hall on Sunday 2nd February! We have over 40 of the best craft and vintage stalls East Anglia has to offer, we think it’s the best range of high quality stallholders we have ever had so make sure to come along! Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter accounts for more information on our fantastic stallholders.
There will be tea, coffee and cakes available as well other events happening as part of the Festival of Beats, more information about this fantastic festival can be found in the previous post and on their website
